It’s not a sinking ship. It’s a lifeboat. Welcome aboard.

So here I am, blogging… again. But this time, it’s less about me and my portfolio, and more about maybe coming out on top of the daily grind.

I have one simple goal for this blog: I want to serve as a voice of growth and encouragement amid the sea of “everything sucks.”

I won’t pretend to have all the answers. I know a thing or two, but I’m no expert; so I’ll try to stick to things I know and attempt to figure out who the experts are for the things I don’t. (Links to a few good candidates are already assembled in the “Watchlist” on the right.)

Following the philosophy that people who may want more guidance and feedback, and maybe even a little inspiration, should always have access to it, my intended audience (at least initially) is the coworkers I rarely see. People I attempt to mentor over the phone, via e-mail, and — now — with this blog.

Eventually, I can see this site evolving into something like a searchable all-in-one reference site — a user-oriented style book/how-to/bulletin board of sorts. To that end, I’ll try to offer some explanations of why our papers do things a certain way and encourage suggestions of how to do it better. I’ll attempt to spark a little creativity and/or conversation, and even just keep folks in the loop on changes we’re making or things we’re working on — or things I’d like us to work on. And I’ll try to help us have some fun amid the slog of the daily grind. (I mean… I gotta be me.)

As I move forward, I encourage your participation here. As I said, I want to foster discussion, not conduct some kind of witch hunt of malcontents in the ranks. So, if you have a comment, feel free to post it. If you have a question or a topic suggestion, feel free to e-mail me, and I’ll respond or blog on it later, as appropriate.

If you think any part of this is pointless or stupid, well, maybe just keep that to yourself.

Like the headline says…
